Bespoke Yacht Security & Risk Management

We deliver bespoke security for private yacht and superyacht owners, UHNW individuals and families, family offices, principals and their guests, from discreet protection aboard a single voyage to the management of security across complex international yachting itineraries.

Our capabilities extend across close protection, yacht security and risk management, protective intelligence, cyber security, emergency response and protection ashore, providing one security structure around the client wherever their itinerary takes them.

The security of a private yacht cannot be considered separately from the people aboard. An owner’s profile, wealth, business interests, public visibility or known threats can increase their exposure, while family members, children and high-profile guests can change the risk considerably.

Our approach begins with a threat, risk and vulnerability assessment, considering the people aboard, the yacht and intended itinerary together. The findings inform a tailored security and mitigation plan, which may include carefully selected onboard protection, strengthened security procedures, advance work, protective transportation, vetted local resources, enhanced medical capability and emergency or evacuation arrangements.

Where wider protection is required, security can extend beyond the yacht across residences, ground transportation, private aviation and international travel, supported by protective intelligence, cyber security and 24-hour operational oversight. From a single discreet operative to a dedicated onboard team or wider international requirement, we provide one point of coordination for the owner, family office, captain or yacht manager, with security built around the client’s risk, lifestyle and privacy.

Yacht Security Operatives

Security aboard a private yacht demands a particular combination of protective capability, discretion and judgement. Yacht security operatives work within the principal’s private environment, often in close proximity to family and guests for extended periods. Protection is discreetly integrated around life aboard and the principal’s lifestyle, without creating an intrusive security presence or compromising their privacy and freedom.

We provide carefully selected yacht security operatives and protective teams for private yachts and superyachts worldwide. We draw on both male and female personnel from ex-military backgrounds including UK Special Forces personnel (SBS - Special Boat Service), ex-Royal Marine Commandos and other highly experienced military and security professionals who are SIA Close Protection Licensed (Security Industry Authority), with operatives selected for their maritime, superyacht and UHNW private-client protection experience. Where required and for higher-risk environments, experienced armed yacht security operatives can also be deployed where legally permitted.

Every operative and team is selected around the principal, family, yacht, itinerary and identified risks. Beyond professional background and operational experience, we consider judgement, discretion, temperament, medical capability, languages, cultural awareness and previous UHNW and family protection experience. Gender preferences and experience protecting children, elderly or vulnerable family members can also be considered, ensuring all our personnel not only have the required protective capability, but can integrate naturally with the captain and crew while respecting the privacy, lifestyle and experience of the owner, family and guests.

Personnel are vetted and screened before deployment, with background, employment history, references, licences and professional qualifications checked as part of the selection process. BS 7858 (British Standards) screening, alongside relevant criminal-record and regulatory checks, along with enhanced screening for personnel working closely with children, elderly or vulnerable family members is undertaken. All operatives are bound by strict confidentiality and Non Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), ensuring the client’s privacy remains protected throughout the assignment.

Protection can continue beyond the vessel, supporting the principal and family during tender movements, water sports and recreational activities, shore excursions such as dining or private events. From a single discreet operative to a dedicated onboard yacht security team, personnel can be deployed for individual voyages, seasonal requirements, extended itineraries or longer-term assignments, maintaining continuity of protection both aboard and ashore.

Yacht Security Assessment & Risk Management

Yacht security should be determined by the risk surrounding the people aboard, the vessel and where it is operating. We assess these factors together to identify credible threats and vulnerabilities, establish the level of risk and develop security measures appropriate to the principal, family, yacht and itinerary.

Principal, Family & Guest Risk

The assessment begins with the principal and those travelling with them. Their profile, public visibility, business interests, known threats or disputes, previous security incidents, stalking or fixation concerns, kidnap and extortion exposure and other relevant circumstances can materially affect the security required.

Family members and guests are considered individually, particularly children, elderly or vulnerable family members and those spending time independently away from the yacht. High-profile guests or changes to those aboard can also alter the risk profile and require additional security measures.

Yacht & Onboard Security

The yacht is assessed in the context of the people aboard and the risks identified. This can include physical security, access control and restricted areas, CCTV and security systems, visitor procedures, crew and contractor access, tenders and embarkation points, existing security personnel and emergency arrangements.

Where applicable, the review can also incorporate formal maritime security requirements, including Ship Security Assessments (SSA), Ship Security Plan (SSP) development and review, ISPS Code compliance, security audits and gap analysis, crew security procedures and drills, and SSO or CSO support. Formal approval, verification or certification can be coordinated with appropriately authorised maritime security partners, Recognised Security Organisations (RSOs) and the relevant Flag State.

Rather than assessing the vessel against a standard model, the review considers whether its existing security arrangements are appropriate for the principal, family and guests it is carrying and the environments in which it will operate.

Voyage, Port & Destination Risk

Routes and passages, ports, marinas and anchorages are assessed against the principal’s risk profile and the threats relevant to each location. This can include crime and organised crime, piracy and armed robbery, kidnap and extortion, terrorism, political instability, civil unrest and other destination-specific concerns.

Medical facilities, emergency and evacuation options, transport and communications infrastructure and the availability of suitable local security resources can also be assessed, allowing additional requirements to be identified and arranged before arrival.

Security Planning & Risk Mitigation

The findings are brought together into a security and risk mitigation plan specific to the client, yacht and voyage. Depending on the risks identified, measures can include close protection and onboard security personnel, changes to access control or security procedures, additional security systems, advance work, enhanced medical capability, secure transportation, vetted local security teams, armed protection where legally permitted and emergency or evacuation arrangements.

The plan can be reviewed throughout the voyage as circumstances change. A change of destination, emerging threat, change in those aboard or development affecting the principal can alter the risk profile, allowing security measures and contingency arrangements to be adapted accordingly.

Privacy and Discretion

A yacht may be private property, but life aboard is not always private from view. Owners, family members and guests can remain visible on deck, at anchor, during tender movements or while entering and leaving marinas. For high-profile and celebrity clients, paparazzi, media or persistent unwanted interest can capture private moments from considerable distances, including from shore, neighbouring vessels and other vantage points, turning otherwise private time aboard into unwanted public exposure.

Protecting against this requires more than simply securing access to the yacht. We consider how exposed the principal and family may be at different points throughout the itinerary, from the choice of anchorage or marina berth to time spent on deck, tender movements and activities ashore. Where unwanted attention is identified, discreet protective surveillance, counter-surveillance and advance planning can help detect persistent interest and reduce opportunities for intrusive photography, filming or unwanted approaches.

Visual privacy is only one part of protecting life aboard. A yacht and its itinerary depend on a wide network of people and organisations, many of whom may have legitimate access to information about the owner, family or guests. Crew and yacht managers may know the full itinerary, while marinas, agents, contractors, suppliers, drivers, restaurants and venues may know when and where the client is expected. If that information is shared unnecessarily, discussed outside the immediate requirement or combined with social media, photography and location data, it can reveal movements, routines and private arrangements that were never intended to become public.

We can help control that exposure by limiting sensitive information to those who genuinely require it, reviewing how itineraries and guest details are communicated, and establishing appropriate confidentiality and information-sharing procedures with crew and third parties. Particular consideration can be given to high-profile guests, changes of itinerary, reservations ashore, transport arrangements, photography aboard and the use of social media or live-location features by those with knowledge of the client’s movements.

Where a principal or guest is already attracting unwanted attention, the approach can be adapted throughout the voyage as that interest develops, helping protect private family time, relationships, children, guests and the client’s movements without unnecessarily restricting how they use the yacht.

Yacht & Personal Cyber Security

Modern superyachts rely on interconnected technology across communications, navigation, access control, entertainment, administration and other onboard systems. Owner, guest and crew devices, satellite connectivity and remote access by yacht managers, contractors and technical providers create further points of entry. A cyber incident can therefore affect not only the yacht’s systems, but the privacy, security and movements of the owner, family and guests aboard.

Yacht cyber security can include risk and vulnerability assessments, internal and external penetration testing, review of onboard IT and operational technology (OT), network segregation, access and remote-access controls, secure communications and testing of third-party connections. Particular attention can be given to separating owner, guest, crew and operational environments and identifying vulnerabilities that could expose sensitive information or compromise onboard security.

Protection can also extend beyond the yacht itself to the personal digital security of the principal and family. Personal devices, accounts, communications and online exposure can be reviewed and strengthened, particularly when travelling internationally or where the client faces an elevated threat profile. Our wider Personal Cyber Security services can provide more extensive protection across the client’s digital life, family and household.

Where required, support can include continuous cyber monitoring and threat detection, phishing and social-engineering testing, crew awareness, incident-response planning, digital forensics and response following a suspected compromise or breach. We can work alongside existing yacht IT/AV teams, yacht management and specialist maritime cyber partners where required.

Crisis, Evacuation and Emergency Response

Emergencies at sea or during an international yacht itinerary can quickly become more complex when the principal, family and guests are moving between jurisdictions or operating away from established infrastructure. Contingency planning can address medical emergencies onboard, security incidents, loss of access to a planned port or marina, sudden deterioration at a destination, severe weather and situations requiring the yacht or those aboard to change course, relocate or disembark.

Where an incident requires action ashore, we can coordinate the security around moving the principal and family from the yacht to a secure location, medical facility or onward transport. This may include tender or port movements, protective transportation, additional security personnel, medical evacuation support, airport or FBO movements and specialist crisis resources where required.

For more serious situations, including piracy or armed robbery concerns, kidnap or extortion, civil unrest, political instability or a significant change in the local threat environment, pre-planned contingencies and trusted international resources can be activated. 24-hour operational support can also be established for voyages requiring continuous access to security assistance.

Integrated Private Security & Support Services

A yacht is often only one part of a client’s wider itinerary. We can manage security across the yacht, residences, ground transportation, private aviation and international travel, providing the owner, family office, captain or yacht manager with one point of coordination rather than separate security providers at each stage.

Close protection, security chauffeurs and protective transportation, residential security and vetted in-country resources can be integrated around the client as required. Where an itinerary crosses multiple jurisdictions, we can coordinate appropriately licensed local armed personnel and specialist partners while maintaining central management and oversight throughout the assignment.

Bringing these services together also strengthens privacy, confidentiality and our ability to respond when circumstances change. Fewer providers require access to sensitive itineraries, locations and family movements, reducing unnecessary exposure of private information. With established international resources and 24-hour operational oversight, additional personnel, transportation and specialist support can be mobilised quickly in response to an emergency, unexpected itinerary change or developing security situation.

Confidential Yacht Security Consultation

Every yacht, itinerary and client presents a different security requirement. Whether planning a single voyage, an upcoming charter, a cruising season or longer-term protection, we can discuss the principal, family, yacht, intended destinations, existing security arrangements and any specific concerns before determining what level of support is appropriate.

We work directly with yacht owners, family offices, captains, yacht managers and trusted representatives, whether establishing security from the outset or reviewing arrangements already in place. From an initial conversation, we can identify where further assessment, planning, specialist personnel or wider security support may be required.

We offer a confidential, no-obligation yacht security consultation to understand your requirements and discuss how security could be structured around the client, yacht and intended itinerary. A Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) is put in place before every engagement, ensuring confidentiality from the outset and before any detailed client, itinerary or security information is shared.
